The Island ECN
The Island ECN is an alternative trading system that provides the institutional investment community with the ability to display and match stock limit orders electronically. The Island ECN was the second Electronic Communication Network (ECN) to receive regulatory approval from the SEC. In September 2002, Island ECN merged with Instinet Group and became one of the largest global electronic agency securities brokers. In December 2005, Instinet was sold to the Nasdaq Stock Market Group, Inc.
